Diversity

Together, we CAN make a difference!

Southwest Community Health Center is committed to building and sustaining an equitable and inclusive environment for work, patient care, and learning, where diversity is celebrated and valued. We believe every member of our team enriches our organization by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with others, to identify challenges, and to discover, design and deliver solutions. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is not just a phrase; each word speaks to distinct values.

We define DEI as:

  • Diversity:  The representation of different and unique identities, characteristics, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Equity:  Giving everyone what they need to succeed by increasing access, resources, and opportunities for all; especially for those who are underrepresented and have been historically disadvantaged.
  • Inclusion:  A welcoming culture in which differences are celebrated and everyone is valued, respected, and able to reach their full potential.

We support service delivery that is responsive to diversity of culture, preferred languages, health literacy, and other communication needs. Within a broad construction of culture, we also focus on services that are tailored to age, diagnosis, developmental level, geographical, economical, and educational needs. We want to know that our service providers deliver effective, equitable, understandable, trauma informed and respectful quality care. And as a health center, it is our duty to ensure that we are equipped with the tools that help us better serve our staff, our patients, and the communities around us.
