Southwest Community Health Center’s Open House Brings Community Together

An Evening of Connection, Celebration, and a Shared Vision for Health Equity

On the evening of May 14, Southwest Community Health Center welcomed the Bridgeport community to its flagship location for an Open House event that celebrated the power of partnerships and the center’s nearly five decades of service.

Held at 46 Albion Street, the event drew community members, local leaders, healthcare partners, and supporters for a dynamic evening that showcased the impact and future vision of one of the region’s leading federally qualified health centers.

Guests enjoyed a light reception and guided tours of Southwest’s modern, community-centered facility. Leadership—including President and CEO Mollie Melbourne—shared personal insights into Southwest’s mission, milestones, and the continued work of expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare in the region.

"Southwest exists because we believe every person deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare—delivered with dignity and respect," said Melbourne during her remarks. "This evening was not just about looking back at what we’ve accomplished, but about rallying support for what’s next."

Event Highlights Included:

  • Networking and conversation among community members and healthcare advocates

  • Guided tours of Southwest’s clinical spaces and program areas

  • Candid conversations with Southwest leadership about ongoing priorities

  • Recognition of key partners who have helped drive Southwest’s success

  • Opportunities for attendees to get involved through volunteerism and philanthropy

The evening also underscored the role that collaboration plays in Southwest’s impact. For nearly 50 years, the organization has provided compassionate, culturally responsive care—offering a full spectrum of medical, dental, behavioral health, and specialty services. Through strong partnerships and a deep commitment to removing barriers to care, Southwest continues to be a vital resource for thousands of patients across Bridgeport and the surrounding region.

"Events like this remind us that we are not in this work alone," Melbourne added. "Our partners, donors, staff, and neighbors make this mission possible—together we are building a healthier future for all."

For those unable to attend but interested in supporting Southwest’s work, there are year-round opportunities to get involved through donations, volunteer service, and advocacy.
