Celebrating National Health Center Week
Community Health Centers play an essential role in the well-being of our population by offering affordable, high-quality medical services to under-served communities. Each year, we take a week to acknowledge their invaluable contributions during National Health Center Week!
Celebrated for over fifty years, National Health Center Week represents a commitment to supporting and nurturing local communities. By bringing together a wide range of individuals, including neighbors and friends we are able to honor the dedication of staff, patients, and frontline workers who make it possible to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare services.
National Health Center Week took place from August 4th - August 10th, 2024. Each day was dedicated to different facets of the community, as listed below.
Sunday, 8/4: Public Health in Housing Day
Monday, 8/5: Healthcare for People Experiencing Homelessness Day
Tuesday, 8/6: Agricultural Worker Health Day
Wednesday, 8/7: Patient Appreciation Day
Thursday, 8/8: Stakeholder Appreciation Day
Friday, 8/9: Health Center Staff Appreciation Day
Saturday, 8/10: Children’s Health Day
This year, Southwest Community Health Center hosted multiple events in the Bridgeport, CT community.
On 8/5, Southwest hosted a Health Fair for Thomas Merton Guests. Southwest Community Health Center also hosted the 17th annual health fair at Wakeman’s Boys and Girls Club’s Madison Avenue Community Clubhouse on 8/7. We partnered with local community partners such as Read to Grow, Alliance, Norma Pfriem Breast Center, Southwestern AHEC, Bridgeport Prospers, Anthem, Hartford Healthcare, and Make the Road Connecticut. School-aged children received free backpacks and school supplies for the coming school year. Read to Grow also provided FREE age appropriate books to put in each child’s backpack. Southwest wrapped up the week by celebrating the Southwest team with a company picnic. Thank you to everyone that contributed to making this special week happen!
