2018 Policy and Issues Forum in Washington, D.C.

On March 14th, 2018, Southwest Community Health Center attended the annual Policy and Issues Forum held at our nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. This four-day event is sponsored by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and serves as a key component to the advocacy efforts tied to the mission of all community health centers across the nation. This year NACHC had a tight agenda filled with congressional visits, learning sessions and vital brainstorming sessions in efforts to preserve the life line of Community Health Centers.

Earlier this year, Congress approved of the Continuing Resolution Bill, which secures the 330 Grant funding for Community Health Centers across the nation and delays DSH Medicaid cuts for the next two  years. Although we are overjoyed with the passing of this bill,  community health center leaders took time to discuss with congress the importance of securing a longer funding extension by at least 7-10 years so that health centers can continue  to provide the much needed services in the communities they serve without delay or risks. Secured funding would also help Community Health Centers across the nations to drastically enhance services and sustainability of community programming.
